Big news in the Outer Battery world, we're really excited to announce the return of J Mascis' Baked Goods record label! J will be making all the A&R decisions while we will handle the day-to-day work of getting the records out to you. We're going to have some big announcements with the label coming soon, but J wanted us to sneak out this teaser release first, and what a release it is... Featuring Japan's Boris and Heap from NYC, this 7" is a tribute to Boris and Dinosaur Jr's long time soundman, Noel Ford. With only 500 copies pressed on purple vinyl, and only available directly from Outer Battery, this single is a little teaser of what is soon to come on the Baked Goods label.
Here's the news... we have two special pressings for you, Dinosaur Jr's "Farm" on an earthy brown vinyl, and "I Bet on Sky" on a sunny yellow. Limited to just 500 copies of each, and only available from Outer Battery Records. They can be purchased separately or bundled together to save a few bucks on both their cost and the postage. This is a one time pressing so don't miss out, the pre-order starts right now, the records will ship in early April!
We are now completely sold out of the Swervedriver 7" on green vinyl! If you received an order confirmation e-mail then you will be receiving your copy. They're shipping now, all orders will be shipped by the end of the week.
Another great release coming to us from Tym Records in Australia, it's the Deep Wound 7" from Swervedriver! This is the first new Swervedriver music available on vinyl in America in 15+ years. Limited to just 300 copies on green vinyl, in a hand numbered sleeve, "Deep Wound' is a classic slice of driving Swerve-rock, featuring backing vocals from Ride's Mark Gardener. 'Dub Wound' on the b-side is a spacey, Krautrock remix. These wont last long!
Back in March 2013 while Dinosaur Jr were on tour in Australia, j stopped by the shop to play an intimate and very loud in-store as his alter ego Heavy Blanket. Bringing heavy psych, guitar solos and noise - lots of noise - together in an amalgam of pure music, it was the first time anywhere that Heavy Blanket had performed live.
Bringing everything together on March 14th at Tym guitars in Brisbane, Australia the result was something to behold. The shop was packed and the stage was set up with over 300W's of valve power just for j to wail through while Graham had fourteen 10"s speakers pumping out the bass.
The result is 25 minutes of volume and screeching Jazzmaster backed by a heavy, driving rhythm section. The show was professionally recorded to 16 track and captured for future generations to be in awe of.
Great news here in the Outer Battery world, our next release is 4 songs of blistering old school hardcore from Obliterations! The band bio is below, official pre-order announcement to come soon...
Obliterations came together in a mere two rehearsals in late 2012. Stephen McBean (Black Mountain) & Austin Barber (Saviours) both individually relocated to Los Angeles, CA and continued to cross paths with friend Sam James Velde (Night Horse).
Obliterations plays heavy on classic punk and hardcore like every era of Black Flag, Jerry's Kids, Born Against or Poison Idea. But the band is quick to reference Alice Cooper, The Stooges or The Laughing Hyenas as inspiration. The blueprint isn't the point here, its the results...
